Canal+, La 7, RTV & Filmin take ‘Munich ’72’ doc

Munich ’72

Poland’s Canal+, Italian broadcaster La 7, Slovenia’s RTV and Spanish’s Filmin have picked up documentary Munich ’72 from distributor Global Screen.

The documentary presents a close-up and dramatic representation of one of the most infamous terror strikes of the 20th Century – the 1972 Munich Massacre – and of the massive failure of a rescue operation that ultimately resulted in the deaths of 11 Israelis.

The factual title, available as 3 x 45-minutes or 1 x 90-minutes, is a co-production between Sipur and Israel’s Channel 8, which aired in September on Yes VOD to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the massacre. The series combines real-life documentary footage and dramatic scenes inspired by newly revealed historical information.

“We are seeing strong sales momentum for Munich ’72 heading into MIPCOM and are in advanced negotiations with a number of other buyers that we will be meeting with there,” said Julia Weber, Global Screen’s head of international sales and acquisitions.
