TV veteran Gary Lico to retire in 2023, seeks ‘Forensic Files’ distributor

Gary Lico

Former Sony exec and CableReady chief Gary Lico is to step down next year following a 50-year career in the syndication and distribution business.

Lico, who now runs GaryLico.TV, will retire by June 2023 and is looking for a global distributor to take over the rights to true crime series Forensic Files.

The veteran holds exclusive worldwide distribution rights to the show, which he created with Medstar Television in 1996. It has since been sold to more than 150 countries.

Lico, who will continue to distribute the series until the rights transition to a new global distribution partner, has had a storied career at companies including Sony Pictures Television and Katz Media, while also hosting US daytime talk show A New Day.

He founded CableReady in 1992 and ran the distributor for more than 20 years, working on shows such as Billion Dollar Disasters and Women Behind Bars, as well as Forensic Files. Following the dissolution of the company in 2013, Lico founded GaryLico.TV.

Lico said: “I am very grateful to the many supportive clients who’ve become friends, the many companies that trusted me and what I licensed, the many meals and drinks and, most important, the many, many laughs we’ve shared. It was a constant learning experience and one I look back on with pride, humility and love.”
