Banijay Mexico & US Hispanic teams with ‘LOL’ comics for new unscripted comedy
Banijay Mexico & US Hispanic is teaming up with Mexican actor and writer Ricardo O’Farrill for a new unscripted comedy series.
The untitled series follows a team of comedians led by O’Farrill, who is tasked with finding “solutions” to everyday problems through comedy, research and interviews with experts.
O’Farrill is an actor, writer and stand-up comedian, and was the first comic in Latin America to place two comedy specials on Netflix, including Abrazo Genial and Abrazo Navideno. He won Amazon Prime Video’s second season of comedy series LOL (Last One Laughing) Mexico and currently has two YouTube series, Nam Nam Extravaganza and Neurosis Y Animo.
“We are thrilled to be teaming with Ricardo and some of the top emerging comedians in the region on this unique comedy series that will make you rethink ‘solutions’ to everyday issues,” said Marie Leguizamo, MD of the recently launched studio, which is set to produce the next season of LOL Mexico for Prime Video. “This is a series that we believe has the potential to become a successful format that can be produced locally on a territory-by-territory basis.”
Joining O’Farrill in the series are fellow LOL Mexico comedians Isabel Fernandez and Karla Camacho, as well as 23-year-old breakout Josuesy.
Fernandea is a screenwriter, actress and stand-up comedian who appeared on the fourth season of LOL Mexico. She currently produces and hosts YouTube series Cuando Nadie Me Ve and co-hosts Por el Placer with Fran Hevia.
Camacho also appeared on the fourth season of LOL Mexico and currently co-hosts the YouTube series Deberías de Pedirlo. Josuesy, meanwhile, is a Mexican comedian and YouTube star.
Banijay Mexico & US Hispanic recently bolstered its ranks, hiring an exec from sibling Endemol Shine Boomdog, as well as the co-founders of CMF Media and Kaptura Projects, and signed a deal with Becky G to produce an unscripted docuseries following emerging all-female Latin group Angel22.
