Disney+ has unveiled two new animated projects from Africa, including a 10-part series that explores fantasy and sci-fi genres.

Kizazi Moto: Generation Of Fire will be made up of 10 films exploring an array of cultures, with South African producer Triggerfish overseeing the project.

The show will debut on the Mouse House’s global streamer in 2022 and is being exec produced by Peter Ramsey (Spider-Man).

Creatives from South Africa, Kenya, Uganda and Zimbabwe onboard individual films, each of which will last around 10 minutes.

The second project, which was also revealed by Disney+ at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival yesterday, is musical comedy Kiff.

The half-hour animation follows two friends – a squirrel and a rabbit – as they have adventures in their mountainous home, with each 11-minute episode including a song.

It has been created by South African duo Lucy Heavens and Nic Small, with production led by LA-based Disney Animation.

The show will debut 2023 and joins existing African animations including Iwájú, which was revealed in December and also explores sci-fi themes.
