Canada’s TVO puts best foot forward with kids’ docu-dance series

Canadian pubcaster TVO has acquired a new original docu-style dance series for its children’s brand TVOkids.

Co-produced by TVOkids and Pillango Productions, with Paris-based Federation Kids and Family handling global distribution, Let’s Dance (39 x 7-minutes) is aimed at 3-7-year-olds and set in the studios of the National Ballet School of Canada.

It is set to debut on TVO in September, as well as online at tvokids.com and on the TVOkids YouTube channel.

The series follows ordinary children with big personalities who love to dance. Each child learns a simple dance routine, and each episode ends with a finale performance at a surprise location.

Each dance routine has been created for any age and skill level by choreographer Jordan Clark, the winner of So You Think You Can Dance and star of The Next Step.

The series marks the first independent production for Pillango, the new venture created by former broadcast executive Sarah Haasz, who comments: “It was very important to create a series that was reflective of our audience both in diversity and skillset.

“We wanted this show to be authentic, aspirational, and relatable and we think the joy that is celebrated on screen through dance will resonate with any age group in any language.”

TVO also recently acquired Annedroids from Sinking Ship Entertainment for TVOkids.
