Apple TV+ orders mental illness anthology from Akiva Goldsman & Tom Holland
Apple TV+ has ordered a 10-part anthology series exploring mental illness from Akiva Goldsman, with Spider-Man’s Tom Holland attached to star and executive produce.
The Crowded Room will be co-produced by Apple Studios and New Regency, with Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind, The Da Vinci Code) to write and exec produce the series through his Weed Road Productions banner. The series will also be executive produced by Alexandra Milchan for EMJAG Productions and New Regency’s Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer.
The show is a seasonal anthology that will explore true and inspirational stories of those who have struggled and learned to successfully with mental illness The first season is inspired by Daniel Keyes’ biography The Minds Of Billy Milligan and will feature Holland in the titular role as the first person ever acquitted of a crime because of multiple personality disorder (now known as dissociative identity disorder).
The Crowded Room joins a growing lineup of Apple Originals being developed and produced by Apple Studios, including The Last Days Of Ptolemy Grey, a new limited series based on the novel by best-selling author Walter Mosley and starring Samuel L. Jackson; Emancipation, from director Antoine Fuqua and starring and produced by Will Smith and the film Killers Of The Flower Moon, directed by Martin Scorsese and starring and produced by Leonardo DiCaprio.
