UK-based children’s digital education platform Sandbox & Co has acquired kids-focused US mobile technology company Fingerprint to create a new SVOD service, Sandbox Kids.

Fingerprint CEO Nancy MacIntyre will head the SVOD and its portfolio of properties, including existing Sandbox brands Hopster and Curious World, alongside Fingerprint’s Kidomi.

MacIntyre will be focused on expanding the new venture’s content offering to engage children, while also helping partners to build, operate and market subscription services around the world.

Sandbox Kids will offer age-appropriate digital content to children via mobile devices through its brands, with Hopster studios to continue producing original content for the service. Collectively, it will include more than 8,000 videos, games, interactive books, songs, podcasts, and audio stories that will be available in more than 100 countries and 23 languages.

The company has content partnerships with more than 200 creators in over 60 countries, as well as commercial partnerships with Amazon, Comcast, T-Mobile, Verizon and others.

Fingerprint is the latest acquisition for Sandbox and the third in the last six months, following Teachit and Code Kingdoms earlier this month. Since forming in 2015, Sandbox has acquired 13 award-winning digital learning products and the launch of Sandbox Kids forms part of its “aggressive plans” for continued growth.

“This is a digital-first world, and as kids’ access to devices and time spent online continues to grow, there is a need for age-appropriate, safe content,” said Bhav Singh, founder & CEO of Sandbox.

“Under Nancy’s leadership, Sandbox Kids will transform how edutainment is delivered around the world and will super serve millennial families with content parents trust and kids love from Curious World, Hopster and Kidomi.”
