NBC reinvents ‘The Wheel’ for the US
US broadcaster NBC has ordered a local version of UK format The Wheel.
The 10-part show is being produced by Warner Horizon, part of Warner Bros. Unscripted TV, and Hungry McBear, which created the format.
The Wheel launched on the BBC in the UK last year – becoming a major hit for the broadcaster – and is fronted by comedian Michael McIntyre.
It sees celebrities strapped to a giant wheel who attempt to help contestants, who are themselves strapped to a smaller wheel, answer questions to win a cash prize. Warner Bros. International Television Production (WBITVP) sells the format outside of the UK and the US.
McIntyre and Hungry McBear are attached to produce the US version, whose order follows the ongoing revival of fellow UK format Weakest Link, which was recently extended by NBC into a second season.
