NEM Zagreb unveils TV Writing Contest details

New Europe Market (NEM) has revealed further details of its forthcoming TV Writing Contest that will take place at NEM Zagreb in December.

The competition is designed to allow screenwriters of all experience to present their projects to an international panel of judges, who will be looking for new ideas in scripted and unscripted categories.

Scripted will include drama, thriller, crime, fantasy, sci-fi and comedy projects, while judges will also be looking at gameshow, factual reality, reality and docuseries ideas as part of the competition.

NEM Zagreb has also unveiled those sitting on the pre-selection judging panel, which will include Farah Abushwesha (The ABC Murders) and execs from US consulting agency ScreenCraft, Hungarian creative network Joyrider and Belgium’s Cineuropa.org. Representative from Estonian film event Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF) and the Czech Republic’s screenplay development service Midpoint are also onboard.

The panel will select 30 screenplays from each category, with 10 screenwriters then selected to meet execs from companies including BBC Studios, Beta Film, Rai, ZDF, CBS Studios International and Croatian Radio-television.

The best three screenplays from both categories will also be presented in the main conference hall to all participants of NEM Zagreb, with the best idea from each category receiving a €5,000 ($5,500) prize.
