Asian streamer Viu to remake ‘Pretty Little Liars’ in Bahasa
Pan-Asian streaming platform Viu has unveiled plans to remake ABC Family/Freeform cult YA series Pretty Little Liars – which ran for seven seasons in the US. Viu secured the rights to the show in a deal with format owner Warner Bros. International Television Production.
Localised in Bahasa and filmed in Bali, the series is expected to begin airing later this year, and will be made available across all 17 of Viu’s Asian and Middle Eastern markets.
Commenting, Janice Lee, managing director of Viu’s owner PCCW Media, said: “Pretty Little Liars is a proven show that resonates with younger viewers with similar profiles to our Viu audience. In line with our strategy to invest in creating content assets, in 2019 we will have a mix of Viu Original productions and will work with international partners on local adaptations that resonate with audiences in Asia.”
