WarnerMedia orders Gremlins prequel & Kaley Cuoco thriller
WarnerMedia has ordered a Gremlins-inspired animated series for its forthcoming streaming service and a show starring The Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco, who has struck an overall deal with sibling studio Warner Bros.
Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai will be a prequel to the 1984 feature film and is being produced by Warner Bros Animation and Amblin Television, with Tze Chun (Gotham) writing.
The 10-parter is set in Shanghai in the 1920s and tells the story of how 10-year-old Sam Wing (future shop owner Mr. Wing in the 1984 feature film) met the young Mogwai called Gizmo.
Amblin, which was behind the movie, has Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey attached to exec produce the adult-skewing series along with Sam Register.
Meanwhile Cuoco has struck a multi-year overall deal with Warner Bros that will see her label Yes, Norman Productions develop projects with Warner Bros. She will also star in The Flight Attendant, which has been ordered for the forthcoming streamer and is based on the novel by author Chris Bohjalian.
