Discovery rolls out HGTV to Germany

Discovery is to launch HGTV, its home and lifestyle network, in Germany as a free to air channel.

HGTV will make an appearance in Germany in June 2019 and marks the first European launch of the brand since Discovery acquired Scripps for $14.6bn in 2017, with further launches to come.

Content on the channel focuses on five pillars of the home: buying and selling, renovation, flipping, home improvement and dream homes. As well as a library of existing content, German audiences will have access to 500 hours of premiere programme content every year.

Hit HGTV series such as Flip or Flop, House Hunters and My Lottery Dream Home will all land on the German channel.

Kasia Kieli, president and managing director at Discovery EMEA, said: “We are incredibly excited to be announcing the launch of HGTV in Germany and start using our scale and expertise across EMEA to expand HGTV and other key real-life entertainment brands into new territories and reach millions of new people throughout EMEA.

“Discovery’s strategy is to connect with passionate audiences across the Globe and the HGTV brand creates a very powerful opportunity to provide a dedicated home brand that fuels people’s passions, builds a community spirit and works across multiple platforms for audiences and commercial partners.”
