Apple appoints Sony exec as casting head
Apple has appointed Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Tamara Hunter to head up casting for its growing entertainment business.
Hunter, who spent two years at Sony, will oversee film and TV projects for Apple. She will report to Sony Pictures Television alum Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht.
The casting chief has worked on major Hollywood hits such as Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Venom, The Equalizer 2 and Hotel Transylvania, while serving at Sony.
She has also served as a senior casting executive at 20thCentury Fox, where she worked on Deadpool, X-Men: Apocalypse and Hidden Figures.
Hunter started her career at Sarah Finn Co. While there, she worked on Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, The Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Godzilla and The Fast and the Furious.
Apple’s hire further enforces the types of talent that Apple plans on pursuing for its originals.
The company has bet on big talent from the moment it became apparent that it would pursue a TV strategy in summer 2017, after the hire of Erlicht and Van Amburg to lead original programming. It has also signed on major talent such as Oprah Winfrey and will be working projects with Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston and Steve Spielberg.
