Singtel TV adds Discovery channels after StarHub spat

Singapore’s Singtel TV has picked up a number of Discovery channels months after telco StarHub pulled the Scripps-owner off its platforms following a major carriage dispute.

Singtel TV has added Discovery’s HGTV, AFC and Food Network to its suite of channels, which already includes TLC, Travel Channel, Discovery and Animal Planet.

Discovery is the largest provider of pay-TV lifestyle content in Singapore, capturing more than 75% of viewers in the genre.

Some of Discovery’s most popular lifestyle shows are House Hunters, Cooking For Love, 90 Day Fiancé (pictured, right) and Harry and Meghan Said Yes.

The new channels are also available on the Singtel Go app.

Discovery and StarHub fell out earlier this summer after failing to agree on a fair price for the channels.

In one of the most high-profile carriage spats in recent years, the telco pulled the plug on Discovery’s portfolio, removing channels from StarHub in two phases – the most recent one taking place at the end of August.

Anna Pak Burdin, general manager for Southeast Asia at Discovery Networks Asia Pacific, said: “We are thrilled to add HGTV, AFC and Food Network to our existing Discovery portfolio with Singtel TV to cater to the appetite for food and lifestyle content, and entertain even more viewers in Singapore.

“Each of these much-loved brands has its own unique content offering and fan base. We are dedicated to fueling the passion of our superfans and enthusiast communities, and we will continue to bring them what they love – on their television screens and beyond.”
