Noah Media to make football doc for ITV
ITV has commissioned Noah Media Group to make Out Of Their Skin, a 2 x 60-min series about black footballers in Britain.
Presented by former Arsenal star and media commentator Ian Wright (pictured), the series charts the rise of black footballers in Britain through a compilation of individual stories past and present.
Combining archive and interviews, Out Of Their Skin is designed to be an entertaining yet thought-provoking series that offers an insight into English sporting heritage and social culture.
Directed by Gabriel Clarke (Bobby Robson: More Than A Manager) and Jay Gill (Euro 96: The Summer Football Came Home), the documentary series will tell a story of progress and tension, integration and resistance, success and defiance.
Gabriel Clarke, NMG chief creative officer, said: “Working with the ITV Sport archive, we’re able to deliver a narrative that shows how football and the nation’s social histories are forever intertwined thanks to the courage and talent of black footballers – whilst investigating what more needs to be done.”
ITV4 Scheduler John Claridge added: “This landmark series will allow viewers to be taken back in time to be reminded just how things have changed – and how they haven’t – in the world of football. It should provide a captivating insight into how black footballers came through sometimes shocking adversity to become household names entertaining millions, and the massive changes that have taken place in football and society.”
