Iflix launches in Bangladesh
Emerging market SVOD service Iflix has launched in Bangladesh in partnership with local mobile operator Robi Axiata.
The service will be available in Bangladesh priced at BDT300 (US3.60) per-month and Robi and Airtel customers are eligible to three months free access to Iflix.
At launch many of Iflix’s most popular movies and TV shows will be offered with Bengali subtitles and Iflix said it aims to localise the entire catalogue in “the months to come”.
The rollout makes Iflix available in 24 countries across Asia, the Middle East and Africa, and the Bangladesh debut follows its launch in Nepal last month in partnership with mobile operator Ncell.
“This launch marks a tremendous milestone for Iflix,” said Iflix head of Asia Jonas Engwall (pictured), who joined this year from RTL CBS Asia Entertainment Network. “We are thrilled to make our service available in Bangladesh and partner with Robi, Bangladesh’s leading telecommunications operator.”
Iflix Bangladesh country manager Imrul Karim said: “Bangladeshis love local stories and shows. In line with our passion for local customers, Iflix will feature an exciting slate of local content.
“We are committed to growing and supporting the Bengali film and television industry, and providing the local creative community a world class platform to showcase their work.”
Iflix claims to have more than 220 studio and distributor partnerships worldwide, allowing it to offer internationally and regionally popular TV shows and films. Iflix subscribers can access the service on up to 5 devices including phones, tablets, laptops, desktops, TVs and other connected devices.
Robi’s chief commercial officer, Pradeep Shrivastava said: “Our partnership with Iflix is a testament to our commitment to provide the best digital lifestyle experiences for our customers through providing easy and affordable access to the very best in entertainment in the world. This partnership also accelerates our progress towards becoming the next generation digital company.”
Robi Axiata Limited is a subsidiary of Asian telecoms giant, Axiata Group Berhad, and is the second largest mobile network operator in Bangladesh. Other shareholders in the entity are Bharti Airtel International and NTT Docomo.
