Amazon picks up McMafia outside UK, US
Amazon has picked up BBC Worldwide and AMC drama McMafia for more than 200 territories, excluding the UK, US, Canada and China.
Amazon Prime Video will premiere the series when it launches in 2018.
McMafia will star James Norton (Happy Valley) as an English-raised son of Russian exiles with a mafia history past who is drawn into the life of crime when his family’s murderous past returns to threaten them.
Academy Award-nominated writer Hossein Amini (Drive, Snow White and the Huntsman) and James Watkins (The Woman in Black) are leading a writing team.
“McMafia is a compelling international story that our Prime Video customers around the world are going to love,” said Brad Beale, VP of Prime Video TV content acquisition.
“With a fascinating premise, talented writers and distinguished cast, McMafia will be a great addition to our stable of high-quality hit shows that are available exclusively to Prime members.”
BBC Worldwide is launching the show internationally at MIPCOM.
