Amazon signs Gilmore Girls duo, Casey Affleck
Amazon Studios has signed a multi-year deal with Gilmore Girls creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino as well as another with Oscar winner Casey Affleck and his new production banner, Sea Change Media.
The Palladino’s have worked in various roles across a wide range of shows including Roseanne, Gilmore Girls, series return Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life and Bunheads. Daniel Palladino has also served as executive producer of Family Guy at various points during its lifespan.
Their new deal will see them develop new projects and add to the two-season greenlight of upcoming Amazon original series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which debuts this autumn on Prime Video in over 200 territories.
Affleck has signed a two-year exclusive first-look production deal that covers both film and TV projects. Last year, Affleck and Amazon Studios worked together on Kenneth Lonergan’s highly acclaimed feature Manchester by the Sea, which won the actor a Best Actor gong at the Academy Awards and is available on Prime.
Mrs. Maisel was written and directed by Sherman-Palladino and executive produced by both Palladinos. It stars Rachel Brosnahan (House of Cards) as Miriam Maisel, a New York City woman in 1958 who has everything, but finds herself in unusual spaces as she embarks on the city’s comedy circuit.
“Amy and Dan are brilliant,” said Joe Lewis, head of comedy, drama and VR at Amazon Studios. “Everything they create has such an incredible vision behind it. On top of that, they’re wonderfully funny and smart people. Also, Amy has the best hats in show business.
“We’re excited about the next two seasons of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel with them and, with this deal, we can’t wait to do a lot more together.”
