Sony beefs ups drama team with ex-Syfy exec
Sony Pictures Television (SPT)’s new leaders have hired former Syfy development exec Andrew Plotkin for its studio drama team.
Plotnik has been handed a senior VP of drama development post at the Culver City studio’s TV wing, Sony Pictures Television Studios (STVS).
He will replace Lauren Stein, who was upped to executive VP and head of drama development after Chris Parnell and Jason Clodfelter were promoted to co-presidents of SPTS, along with Jeff Frost.
Plotkin will report to Stein, and work on developing new drama ideas for broadcast, cable and digital services.
He was most recently at All In Media, an IP development and packaging indie he founded.
Before that, he worked as head of television at New Regency Productions and head of original programming at NBCUniversal-owned cable channel Syfy. He has also worked at Warner Bros. Television, Class IV Productions, and Rysher Entertainment.
Clodfelter, Parnell and Frost were upped after former co-presidents Zack van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht joined Apple to lead its push into original programming.
Sony’s new season programmes include S.W.A.T., Alex Inc. and The Good Doctor (pictured).
