Walter Presents picks up Brazilian titles

Walter Presents, Channel 4’s VOD service dedicated to foreign drama for UK and US, has picked up Globo’s series Merciless and The Hunter.

The titles are available on the platform in Portugese with English subtitles.

Merciless revolves around a psychopath named Edu who uses all of his charm to hide his real and dark personality. In the international market, the series has been licensed in 4k to Korean group EPG and Portugal’s open TV network SIC.

The Hunter is a 13-episode series that tells the story of a cop who is wrongfully imprisoned. The thriller has been broadcasted by SIC and boosted the Portugese network’s ratings by 55% during its premiere, according to Globo.

The licensing of the series to the streaming service is part of Globo’s strategy to produce and distribute ‘creative and quality’ content that covers a range of different platforms.

In July, Globo made its first 4K-produced drama, Dangerous Liasions, available through its on-demand player. It claims to be the first mainstream free TV broadcaster to offer programming in 4K, which offers brighter, sharper images than the industry-standard HD.
