Canal + orders Joann Sfar drama Monsters’ Shrink
Canal + has commissioned Red Production Company to produce Joann Sfar’s live action drama Monsters’ Shrink.
Red, a UK-based subsidiary of StudioCanal, will work with Sfar to create his first English-speaking live-action series, which follows the story of New Yorker Rebecka Broke, a neurotic and quirky psychoanalyst who discovers her husband has been found dead at their villa in the South of France.
The series is adapted from his original novel L’Eternel (The Eternal) published by Albin Michel in France.
Sfar said: “I am so excited to be working for Canal + with Red Production Company on my first international live-action drama. Having our lead character Rebecka confront the reawakening of this twisted world and the chance to see my monsters come to life in this way will be thrilling – a new take on the classical monster world.”
CEO of Red and executive producer Nicola Shindler said: “Joann Sfar is a truly visionary creative and Monsters’ Shrink is the product of that unique imagination. We are absolutely thrilled to be working with him to bring this totally original and innovative new show together for Canal +.”
Sfar is a director and graphic artist who created and directed the series Gainsbourg: A Heroic Life, a biopic of the illustrious French songwriter and singer.
