ABC Kids & BBCWW partner for animated series
ABC Kids and BBC Worldwide (BBCWW) have partnered with Ludo Studio on a new preschool animated series.
Production has started on Bluey, an Australian animated preschool series created by Joe Brumm and co-commissioned by ABC Kids and the commercial arm of UK pubcaster the BBC.
The series has received funding support from Screen Australia, which is in association with Screen Queensland.
The title follows Bluey, a loveable and inexhaustible six-year-old Blue Heeler puppy, who lives with her dad, mum and four-year-old sister.
Bluey is created and produced wholly in Australia. Brumm is the creator/showrunner while Charlie Aspinwall and Daley Pearson will act as executive producer and producer, respectively.
The series will also be executive produced by Michael Carrington, ABC head of children’s television, and Henrietta Hurford-Jones, director of children’s content for BBCWW.
Hurford-Jones said: “We’re thrilled to be working with the talented team at Ludo and Michael and team at the ABC on Bluey. This show introduces a wonderful character in Bluey who uses every day gameplay to understand the world around her.
“The show takes an authentic and very funny view on family life with young children that ensures it will be enjoyed by parents as well as children. Add in the beautiful Australian locations and colours and we feel Bluey will become a new global hit.”
