Walking Dead net AMC debuts ad-free subs channel
The Walking Dead channel AMC is launching an ad-free, linear channel for US$5 a month in the US.
Comcast Xfinity TV customers will be able to watch series such as the Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead and Into the Badlands through the network, AMC Premiere.
Along with ad-free episodes of AMC’s originals available as soon they air on the main channel, AMC Premiere will also offer content produced specifically for its audience.
More content and features will roll out over the summer.
The channel soft-launched yesterday, becoming one of the first networks that aims to reach audiences that are favouring on-demand services over cable subscriptions.
However, as a cable subscription is required, meaning cord-cutters cannot gain access.
“With AMC’s engagement at an all-time high, developing more options for viewers to connect with our content is a priority,” said Charlie Collier, president of AMC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios.
“Tens of millions of existing viewers watch our shows through the cable ecosystem, so partnering with Comcast gives us a great opportunity to launch this new idea at scale.”
Existing AMC customers will gain access to the channel, with other Xfinity customers needing to pay $4.99 a month.
