Weinstein backs Oliver Stone-directed Guantanamo series
The Weinstein Company (TWC) has come on board a new scripted TV project from film-maker and Daniel Voll entitled Guantanamo.
The show, created by Voll and directed by Stone, is about the people held at the controversial US prison, and those who defend and imprison them.
TWC co-chair Harvey Weinstein said: “It’s always been a dream of mine to work with Oliver. I’m a longtime fan and he’s one of our greatest filmmakers. This is explosive material that will work from all sides. Daniel Voll’s incredible resume will make this amazing collaboration between him and Oliver newsworthy and super watchable.”
The Guantanamo Bay camp was opened after the September 11 attacks to interrogate suspects in the war on terror. Despite criticism from human rights organisations, the camp is still open.
“Oliver and I are excited about creating an immersive, highly cinematic series, filled with twists and turns, that explores the dark side of how America prosecutes its war on terror,” commented Voll, an award-winning journalist whose recent TV credits include Lie to Me and The Unit.
