John Singleton, eOne making A&E LA Riots doc
A&E has ordered L.A. Burning: The Riots 25 Years Later, a two-part doc about the 1992 riots from Boyz n the Hood director John Singleton.
The special will be produced by Entertainment One Television and go out on A&E on April 18 and directed by One9 (Time is Illmatic).
Singleton will exec produce. “I believe the 1992 LA Uprising has never truly been given a voice until now,” he said. “We’ve attempted to chronicle the untold stories and unique perspectives of people whose lives were profoundly affected by this event.”
“As a native Los Angeleno I know the actions of that three day event didn’t just appear out of thin air. The city was a powder keg boiling at the seams for many years under police brutality and economic hardship of people of colour.”
Using archive footage and interviews with people who were there, the doc relives the six-day riot. Singleton is one of those who share their experience of the events. Activists, rioters, innocent bystanders, police and journalists are also all interviewed.
