US Nordic noir remake cancelled
TNT will not take its remake of Eyewitness into a second season.
The US crime thriller was based on a series from Norway’s NRK (pictured). The format launched last October on Turner’s TNT, but failed to win over American viewers.
Shades of Blue writer Adi Hasak bought the rights to the NRK show, and wrote and produced the US version with Universal Cable Productions.
DRG reps NRK’s series internationally, and its Universal deal for Eyewitness was significant as it marked the first time a Norwegian drama had been remade in the US.
The series follows a pair of teenagers who witness a killing and then have to escape the clutches of the killer.
The original series ran to six episodes on NRK1 with its US equivalent stretching to ten instalments in its Sunday night slot, where TNT paired it with Law & Order: SVU.
Turner has focused attention on TNT in recent months with a raft of promotions and hires following acquisition of business consultancy BraVe Ventures.
