TNT orders Snowpiercer series from ITV prodco

Scripted-logo-460_2Marty-AdelsteinUS cable net TNT has ordered a pilot of Snowpiercer, a futuristic drama based upon the Korean movie of the same name.

ITV Studios America prodco Tomorrow Studios is making the show with Studio T, which like TNT, is part of Turner.

The show is set seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, and the remnants of humanity inhabit a gigantic, perpetually moving train that circles the globe.

Josh Friedman (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) will exec-produce alongside Marty Adelstein (pictured) and Becky Clements from Tomorrow Studios, and the original film’s Bong Joon Ho, Park Chan-wook, Lee Tae-hun and Dooho Choi. Korea’s CJ Media & Entertainment is also involved.

Snowpiercer has one of the most original concepts to hit the screen in the last decade, and it’s one that offers numerous opportunities for deeper exploration in a series format,” said Sarah Aubrey, executive VP of original programming for TNT. “We look forward to expanding TNT’s relationship with Tomorrow Studios and their take on a world where humanity is pushed to the extreme.”

Snowpiercer will be the second movie-to-TV project TNT has ordered from Tomorrow Studios after it greenlit a pilot for a TV version of vampire tale Let the Right One In. That is also being made with Studio T.

TNT is also currently running Tomorrow Studios-produced crime drama Good Behavior, which is starting to be picked up internationally.

“TNT has become a great producing partner to Tomorrow Studios and we are excited to continue our relationship with them on Snowpiercer, for which we not only have a pilot but are writing multiple scripts,” said Adelstein, CEO of Tomorrow Studios. “This is an incredibly powerful story and one for which finding the perfect home was imperative to its success.”
