Stan Lee content powers AR/VR kids app

The “world’s first kid-centric app powered by augmented reality and virtual reality” has launched with content from the Stan Lee superhero universe.

Interactive platform The Vroom will offer games and story-led content that promotes what educators dub ‘social-emotional learning’ on Apple and Android devices, and Windows 10.

Playing Forward, the company behind the app, claim it represents the first time “age-appropriate use of virtual reality” has been employed in the children’s entertainment space.

One example sees the company’s image-recognition software allows a physical picture book come to life a multi-dimensional pop-up book when viewed through a smart phone.

The initial round of content will be available free of charge, and include 3D animations and interactive adventures from partners of app creator Playing Forward.

This includes a virtual pop-up story from the Stan Lee’s Kids Universe, Dex T-Rex, which is about a mischievous dinosaur who learns the consequences of his actions. Other titles include Maxi the Taxi Dog and The Monkey King.

Stan Lee’s Kids Universe is a kids-focused digital venture between Paris Kasidokostas and Terry Dougas’s 1821 Media and Lee’s POW! Entertainment, which is behind various animated series (Stan Lee’s Mighty 7) and live-action TV shows (Lucky Man).
