BBC takes on Fremantle’s Serena
sereWith the Wimbledon tennis championship underway this week, British terrestrial channel BBC Two has acquired a documentary about one of the on sport’s biggest icons, Serena Williams.
The network will play Serena this Sunday in a 10.3pm slot following a deal with distributor FremantleMedia International.
The 45 1x120mins doc has Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights) attached as an executive producer. It looks into the life of Williams during an historic 2015-2016 season, during which she completed a second ‘Serena Slam’ – winning all four major tournaments in a row.
“With Wimbledon in full swing, Serena offers the BBC2 viewers and tennis fans a never-before-seen look into the life of one of the greatest athletes of our time,” said FMI’s executive VP, head of sales and distribution, EMEA, Jamie Lynn.
“The documentary perfectly captures Serena’s strength and dedication for the sport, as well as an intimate look into the uncompromising pressures that come with being the best.”
