New international chief in Nippon rejig

Atsushi HatayamaNippon has appointed Atsushi Hatayama head of its international operation with the exec moving over from the Japanese broadcaster’s news department.

Nippon launched its International Business Development unit in 2012, and Hatayama will take the helm, with current boss, Yukiko Kimishima, moving to Nippon TV International Corporation.

She will be president of the New York based Nippon division, which sends US news back to Japan and provides production expertise for Japanese-themed programming being made in the US.

Nippon said that Hatayama will aim to strengthening Nippon’s international relationships and build new international partnerships.

He has been with Nippon since 1984, initially as a news reporter.

Commercial broadcaster Nippon has moved into programme and format sales, and also runs the Gem entertainment channel, which is a joint venture with Sony.
