Vimeo CEO Trainor steps down

Vimeo CEO Kerry Trainor is stepping down from the IAC/InterActiveCorp-owned video site after four years in the job.

Kerry TrainorIn an email sent to staff, Trainor said that he has decided to “step back from Vimeo” and plans to “live life for a bit while working with a few companies as a board member until I’m ready to announce my next full time project.”

Trainor said he will remain an advisor to Vimeo to “ensure a smooth transition” and will help IAC to recruit Vimeo’s next CEO. In the meantime, IAC CEO Joey Levin will become Vimeo’s interim chief exec.

Vimeo general manager Mike Weissman will continue in his current role and work directly with Levin.

“Looking back at what we’ve accomplished together, it’s pretty staggering: we’ve more than tripled our monthly users to over 280 million and our paying subscribers to over 710,000, and grown our revenue fivefold,” said Trainor in the email to staff, which was published in full by tech site Venturebeat.

“As the video world continues to unbundle for consumers, Vimeo is poised to take its next major leap as the largest, open destination for premium, ad-free video, direct from creators worldwide.

“Our early programming bets with Vimeo Originals have shown that creators – empowered with total artistic freedom – can reach a global paying audience through Vimeo… And it’s just the beginning.”
