IMG to sell BBC America drama
IMG is moving further into distribution by acquiring rights to new BBC America drama Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency.
The show, which launches in autumn this year, follows on from IMG selling another BBC drama, The Night Manager, as it moved into TV programme sales.
Dirk Gently… comes from BBC American part-owner AMC Studios, Asia’s Ideate Media and IDW Entertainment, with Circle of Confusion also attached. The comedic thriller follows Samuel Bennett playing the title character, an eccentric sleuth who navigates one seemingly insane mystery per season.
“This is one of the most original and distinctive series we have seen in a while, based on iconic IP and with an incredible vision from Max Landis, Robert Cooper and Dean Parisot – we couldn’t be more pleased to bring this to a global marketplace,” said WME IMG partner Chris Rice.
IMG has sold John le Carré-penned Night Manager to platforms such as Amazon in the UK, US and Japan, and recently brought on TV industry veteran Gary Marenzi as head of entertainment sales and partnerships.
The firm is part of Hollywood talent agency WME after a US$2.4 billion merger last year.
