Dan Aykroyd preps Blues Brothers toon
Dan Aykroyd and the prodco behind Fox series Bob Burgers are developing a Blues Brothers toon series.
Aykroyd, one of the two leads in the cult musical comedy, is creating the animated series with Judy Belushi, widow of Jim, his co-lead in the 1980 feature film. Saturday Night Live writer Anne Beatts is also part of the creative team.
Bento Box will produce the show, and said it will take the project out to broadcasters from this month.
The series will follow the adventures of Jake and Elwood Blues as they take their act on the road.
Aykroyd said: “The show will be the Blues Brothers living in America and utilising all new technology to make and promote their own records, seek out and record new artists and avoid law enforcement – and all while fighting for truth, justice and a better breakfast sandwich.”
Bento Box said each episode will feature soul, blues and R&B classics and new music.
“It is such a privilege for us to be able to produce the work of the very same people who played such an instrumental role in creating one of the most iconic, multi-faceted comedy and music brands of all time,” said Bento Box founder and CEO Scott Greenberg.
“Now we all have the rare opportunity to translate the timeless comic genius of Dan and John from live-action to animation, while offering an entirely new generation of Blues Brothers fans the chance to appreciate them.”
