Televisa embarks on second English drama
Televisa is working up The Seventh Day, a post-apocalyptic English-language drama from Scott Shepherd.
Televisa is the world’s largest producer of Spanish-language programming but moved into producing English-language fare out of Mexico with Dougray Scott drama Duality.
The Seventh Day will be its second English-language project out of Mexico.
The series will be based upon the Shepherd e-novel of the same name. Along with writing partner Cindy McCreery, he will exec produce the ten-part series.
“Through masterful storytelling, Scott and Cindy are once again weaving gripping stories into compelling television,” said Chris Philip, head of production and distribution for Televisa USA.
“Their masterful tales fit perfectly with the wide array of sets and terrain that Televisa has to offer in Mexico, where we plan to shoot all of the series we greenlight.”
The series will be set seven years after Earth has been decimated, following the adventures of one of the few survivors.
Shepherd said: “The story is centred around a new world with a line drawn firmly in the sand between good and evil, in which the characters are given a second chance to choose which side to throw down on by making emotional, grounded and relatable decisions.”
