Comcast on-demand platform adds Sony’s Crackle
Comcast’s Xfinity On Demand is adding Sony Pictures Television’s streaming platform Crackle to its cable and TV Everywhere services.
The deal means Comcast subscribers with access to catch-up platform Xfinity will be able to watch Crackle as of tomorrow (April 20).
This marks the first time Crackle has been made available via a cable subscription, as it currently distributed via platforms such as PlayStation, Apple TV, Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV, Xbox and Roku.
“Our deal with Comcast expands the reach of our content to new audiences across Xfinity On Demand platforms, ” said Eric Berger, executive VP, digital networks, SPT and general manager of Crackle. “Now, millions of viewers will be able to access Crackle’s original programming on demand, without having to leave their set top box environment.”
Crackle’s premium, original shows include Jerry Seinfeld vehicle Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, Bryan Cranston-starring adult animation SuperMansion and Dennis Quaid starrer The Art of More.
“We are pleased to bring Crackle’s collection of premium, long-form content to our 22 million video subscribers,” said Franz Kurath, VP, content acquisition at Comcast Cable.
“We are continually expanding our on demand content offering and Crackle’s growing portfolio of high-quality original series is a unique and valuable addition to our Xfinity On Demand platform.”
Crackle is currently working on Star Up, a tech-inspired crime drama starring Martin Freeman (Fargo) and from the newly-established Critical Content and Hollywood Gang Productions.
