Mattel readies new Bob and Fireman Sam content
Mattel’s new content division is launching new Bob the Builder and Fireman Sam specials.
Mattel Creations, announced last week as the firm’s new programming, production and distribution division, sell the new series.
The Fireman Sam special, Fireman Sam: Alien Alert, will be have David Tennant (Doctor Who) among the voice talent. It will run to 60 minutes. It will introduce new characters and locations and feature an alien-hunter, who comes to town to investigate UFO sightings.
Bob the Builder: Mega Machines – The Movie, will come out next year. It will introduce new characters into the Bob the Builder universe.
Speaking about Bob, Christopher Keenan, senior VP, global content & executive producer at Mattel Creations says: “Bob the Builder continues to build momentum across many new markets and, as our stories get bigger, so too does our global reach.
“Bob the Builder: Mega Machines is a testament to this; the film tells the story of Bob’s biggest build yet and introduces three new “mega” characters who help reinforce the show’s themes of teamwork, perseverance and optimism – with plenty of comedy, construction and conflict resolution along the way.”
Specials are often packaged with series and sold to broadcast partners. They are also sold on DVD, and in some territories can have a limited theatrical run.
Mattel also said there are new deals for Bob the Builder. Network Ten-owned Channel 11 has bought the show in Australia. In Europe, Norway’s NRK, Russia’s Karusel and ATV in Turkey have all also bought Bob.
DHX will distribute both specials internationally as part of a wider deal between the Canadian indie studio and Mattel.
