Japan’s NHK tunes into Gogglebox
NHK has run a local pilot of Japanese version of hit format Gogglebox.
The Japanese public broadcaster aired the local adaptation on its main channel as part of its recent 90th anniversary celebrations in the past week.
The format, which shows members of the public watching and reacting to the week’s TV, was created by All3Media prodco Studio Lambert. It is sold by All3Media International, which struck the NHK deal.
NHK Enterprises made the Japanese version of Gogglebox. Executive producer Miwako Hosoda said: “We have never produced nor broadcast anything like Gogglebox; it was totally unprecedented. It was a different programme for us and got great reactions from the viewers, especially on social networks such as Twitter.”
Also in Asia, Mongolia’s Mongol TV has launched its own 13x60mins version of the series.
All3Media has now sold local versions of Gogglebox, which was originally for Channel 4 in the UK, into over 30 territories.
