Series based on Heathers movie in the works
TV Land has ordered a pilot of Heathers, a series based on the movie of the same name.
Ordering the pilot, the Viacom-owned US cable net said the TV version of Heathers will be an anthology series, in which a modern-day heroine has to deal with a vicious clique (the Heathers).
US network Fox prepped a reboot of the 1998 movie back in 2009, striking a deal with Sony Pictures Television and Lakeshore Entertainment, but it never made it to air.
Then in 2012, Bravo, having also inked a deal with Sony, started developing a reboot, but never took it to series.
TV Land has brought on Jason Micallef (Butter) to write the pilot, and Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi will exec produce for Lakeshore, which is producing.
TV Land announced another film-to-TV project earlier this month, with Rebecca Addelman (New Girl) penning a small screen version of 1996 comedy The First Wives Club.
It also has an unnamed drama pilot, inspired by the life of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards, with John Wells (The West Wing) producing.
