MTV brings grandparents to Spring Break
MTV has commissioned an eight-part reality series for its international channels in which twenty-somethings hit the beach with their favourite grandparent.
Spring Break with Grandad comes from UK-based indie Handsome Productions and will run across the Viacom-owned network’s international channels from June.
Billed as “crazy, cute and definitely cringe-worthy”, the show will see attractive young singles spend four weeks together at a luxury Mexican villa, with their grandparents alongside to coach them on the high and low moments.
“Spring Break with Grandad is the perfect fit for MTV,” said Kerry Taylor, senior VP, youth and music for MTV parent Viacom International Media Networks (pictured).
“We know our audience loves the romance and the drama our reality franchises serve up, and now we’re adding a hilarious new element into the mix. Grandparents are the best, and we can’t wait to see what they’ll get up to in Cancun.”
Casting is underway in the US and UK, with Handsome’s Nichola Hegarty and Sharon Stansfield and MTV International’s Craig Orr and Jake Attwell executive producing.
“Spring Break is the perfect backdrop for a big reality series, the grandparents providing an extra layer of comedy and classic fish out of water moments,” said Stansfield, a former Celebrity Big Brother UK series editor and executive producer on ITV2 scripted reality show The Only Way is Essex.
