Dish bags 4K content from Sony
US satcaster Dish Network has bought 4K movies and series from Sony Pictures Entertainment, plus indie distributors The Orchard and Mance Media.
The Ultra HD content will be made available to Dish customers with a 4K Joey-connected Hopper set-top boxes on 4K televisions.
From Sony comes The Amazing Spiderman, Captain Phillips, American Hustle, Momuments Men and Smurf 2, with more titles from the studio’s 4K catalogue following.
“Our inventory of 4K content gives customers the ability to enjoy programming that showcases Ultra HD technology and offers an unparalleled viewing experience,” said Warren Schlichting, Dish’s executive vice president of marketing, programming and media sales.
“By partnering with Sony Pictures, The Orchard and Mance Media, we are able to give viewers some of the most popular movies at the best picture quality commercially available.”
Meanwhile, Dish is integrating Netflix TV series and movies into its search function on its DVR Hopper boxes. This is the first time a US pay TV provider has added shows from the streaming service to its universal search.
