PCCW OTT service goes live, preps launches
Viu, a new OTT service from Asian telco PCCW, has launched in Hong Kong with further roll outs throughout Asia and the Middle East planned.
The new service launched this week and PCCW said it will now progressively hit other Asian territories including India. It will, the telco added, also launch across the Middle East.
PCCW is hoping that the Viu brand will build upon its Vuclip mobile video services, which has eight million subs across ten Asian territories.
“By leveraging the group’s strong content providers’ network, telco relationships, patented adaptive streaming technology by Vuclip, Viu OTT video service is well-positioned with today’s discerning viewers in mind as they can now readily stream or download content directly onto their mobile phones, tablets, laptops and desktops,” said Janice Lee, managing director, PCCW Media.
Viu is programmed with drama and entertainment programming from Korea, Japan, Mainland China and Taiwan. There is a basic free service and a paid-for premium option.
PCCW said its regional rollout plan will take effect over the next six months.
