ABC orders Spanish drama remake from NMV
New Media Vision has sealed a deal with ABC Studios, which will make a pilot of Motivos Personales, the Spanish drama that NMV represents internationally.
UK-based content company New Media Vision, which is run by former Viasat and Disney exec Todd Lituchy.
The hour-long thriller was originally created by Carlos Vila and Javier Holgado for Spanish prodco Boomerang TV, and went out on free-to-air channel Telecinco.
It follows a female news anchor whose husband is accused of murder, prompting her fight to prove his innocence.
The US pilot, part of the networks’ wider pilot season, will be made by ABC Studios with Calamity Jane Production’s Ellen Pompeo (Grey’s Anatomy) and NMV’s Lituchy as exec producers.
NMV has a strong record in the US, having set up Mysteries of Laura, a US remake of another Spanish drama, at NBC, which is now in its second season. The UK-based company said it has also placed formats with CSI producer Carol Mendelsohn, who has an overall deal with Sony Pictures Television.
“I am thrilled to be working with Andy, Calamity Jane and ABC Studios on adapting Motivos Personales for ABC. It is a fantastic project with huge potential to entertain and captivate audiences,” said Lituchy.
NMV’s director of international development and production, Michelle Mian, added: “We are proud that our boutique company has created a name for itself identifying global content with universal adaptation appeal. We hope to continue to build on this success.”
The show is the latest international scripted format Disney-owned ABC is working up for pilot season, coming after deals fo Austrian shows Janus and Braunschlag.
