Beyond poaches ABC exec for drama drive

The CodeProducer and distributor Beyond has recruited David Ogilvy to run a new Australia-based scripted division.

Ogilvy joins from the ABC where he was a drama commissioner.

He has a long list of credits from his time at the Australian pubcaster including The Code (above), Rake, Anzac Girls, and The Straits.

At the new Beyond division he will develop scripted content for the domestic Australian and international markets.

Beyond said its new drama unit will work with emerging and established writing talent and will produce entertaining, challenging series.

Beyond historically made drama, but has concentrated on non-fiction in recent years.

Ogilvy said today: “Having been a dedicated fan of Beyond’s acclaimed dramas Halifax F.P. and Stingers in the formative years of my career, it’s a wonderful opportunity to join the company at such a dynamic time for scripted production”.

Mikael Borglund, managing director and CEO at Beyond, added: “We are thrilled to have David join us. His extensive experience in scripted content will be the cornerstone of Beyond’s push to deliver the quality drama to audiences in Australia and internationally”.
