Canadian pubcaster CBC has rehired a former employee to succeed Kim Wilson at the top of its Kids CBC unit.
Martin Markle has been named senior director of children’s content, a position in which he will oversee the division, including development and production.
He worked for CBC between 2003 and 2006 as executive in charge of production at CBC Television’s children’s and youth unit. He later worked at Canwest Broadcasting (now part of Shaw Media) and then launched his own prodco, Markle Productions, which produces Kids CBC series JiggiJump.
“Martin’s breadth of experience in both production and broadcast, his strong relationships with the independent community and his passion for children’s programming make him an ideal candidate to oversee and evolve our children’s content”, says Sally Catto, general manager, programming.
“I am thrilled to return to the CBC, and I look forward to overseeing fun and inspiring content for kids.”, says Markle. “I look forward to working with the Kids’ CBC team in providing the best children’s content possible on every platform, to all Canadians.”
CBC’s creative head of children’s and youth programming, Wilson, left the pubcaster this April after 14 years. Catto took on the kids division in the interim.
A further change at Kids CBC sees Zach Feldberg become executive-in-charge of production, digital originals. He will work with CBC’s scripted and unscripted teams on digital original strategy.
