Horror icon Campbell creates competition format
Comedy-horror legend Bruce Campbell is working with producers from the American Survivor and The Amazing Race to create an “unconventional, off-beat” competition series.
Bruce Campbell’s Horrified will celebrate the horror genre and its dedicated fan base through a “smart and irreverent comedic lens”.
5×5 Media, which Craig Armstrong (Survivor) and Rick Ringbakk (The Amazing Race) head up, is attached to produce the show with Campbell, in association with Warner Horizon Television, which is part of Warner Bros. Television.
Each episode will revolve around a feature horror genre such as monsters, psychological and zombies, and will contestants attempting to avoid elimination by competing in challenges related to the theme.
Campbell will host and executive produce alongside Armstrong, Ringbakk and Charles Wachter.
“From where I’m sitting, this is the first time a reality series has melded competition and comedy with the fun and fear of the horror genre,” said Campbell. “It’s a sweet spot I love and to pull it off takes a team of creative, industrious and slightly insane people – which is, of course why I wanted to do it.”
Campbell is soon to appear in Starz’s television reboot of the classic movie franchise that made him famous, The Evil Dead. The new show, Ash Vs. the Evil Dead, will be a key title on Starz’s slate at MIPCOM.
