Turkish drama completes Lat Am set
Turkish drama Ezel has now been sold into every Latin American territory following a new round of deals.
Unitel in Bolivia, TV Accion in Paraguay, Latina in Peru and Caracol in Colombia have bought the show from Eccho Rights, which sells the Ay Yapim-produced show in Latin America in conjunction with local vendor SOMOS Distribution.
These follows agreements in Brazil, Ecuador and Central American territories, which combined mean that ATV and Show TV series Ezel has been sold into every country in the Latin American region.
Latin America has become a key buyer of Turkish drama, as the country’s long-running, melodramatic scripted formats ape the continent’s taste for telenovelas.
Scandinavia-based Eccho recently brought in Barbora Susterova from Imagina as sales and acquisition executive director for Latin America to build on a spate of recent deals.
“Ezel is a good representation of the power of the Turkish drama with a script full of suspense, high production values and excellent casting,” said SOMOS Distribution VP and COO Francisco Villanueva.
“This particular drama is the spearhead that is opening up Latin America to a new competitor, reinvigorating the strength of a genre that commands the programming grids of the region.”
