Spike readies Bryan Singer WWIII drama

US cable channel Spike TV has added five dramas to its slate, including a Bryan Singer World War III drama.

The Viacom-owned cable network has been aggressively pushing its scripted development slate, and now counts World War III, Bad Medicine, Hummel & Howe, In Between and Secret America on its slate.

Producer Singer (House, X-Men, The Usual Suspects) is executive producing World War III, which comes from writers Aaron and Matthew Benay.

The series is billed as followed a man with a troubled past who galzanises a resistance movement in Occupied America. Benay Bros. and Bad Hat Harry produce.

Another dystopian drama, Secret America, is set in a world where the US government, scared by the threat of terrorism, has turned the country into an autocratic state. It will follow one family that tries to survive the world.

The producer is Alcon Entertainment, whose group president Sharon Hall and co-founders Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson executive produce. Josh Goldin and Rachel Abramowitz are writers.

Bad Medicine is billed as a psychological horror about a man cured of his constant pain only to realise there are deadly consequences to the work of his brilliant but unconventional doctor.

Aaron Mendelsohn is writer, with Nick Hamm executive producer and Momentum TV attached as producer.

Hummel & Howe, set in late 19^th century New York City, follows a pair of criminals who become the greatest defence attorneys in US history.

Scott Aversano and Tom Gormican of Additional Dialogue and Endemol Shine Studios produce, with Andy Bellin attached as writer.

In Between is based on a short story from Walter Mosley about a high-stakes courier who traffics sensitive information. Wosley and Diane Houslin are producers.

The news comes days before Spike launches its first miniseries in eight years, Tut.
