Wowow orders para-athletes doc
Japanese pay TV channel Wowow has ordered a doc series about para-athletes, in the run up to the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.
The as-yet-untitled series will go out on Wowow, a Japanese premium network equivalent to HBO, on its Prime channel in 2016. It will follow a group of para-athletes and their journey to the Rio 2016, Pyeongchang 2018, and Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
The doc has been made possible by Wowow striking a five-year deal with the International Paralympic Committee, the first time the IPC has worked with a broadcaster in this way.
“We are extremely honoured to be collaborating with IPC on the production of this exciting documentary series. I strongly believe that diversity is one of the most important keywords of our future,” said Nobuya Wazaki, chairman of Wowow.
IPC president Sir Philip Craven added: “We are delighted to partner with Wowow to produce this documentary series. There are so many amazing stories to tell about para-athletes and I look forward to watching the series between now and Tokyo 2020.”
