Smithsonian buys Irish music special

Smithsonian Channel has acquired the latest special of Irish music series Other Voices.

The one-hour show will run on Smithsonian in the US and Canada after acquiring it from Dublin-based Monster Entertainment.

Hosted by Aidan Gilen (Game of Thrones, The Wire), the special features then-unknown Irish singer-songerwriter Hozier’s first television appearance.

YLE in Finland, Arts Channel in New Zealand and RTÉ in Ireland are among previous buyers of the show, which launched at MIPDoc earlier this year.
