Fox making Rocky Horror TV special
US broadcast network Fox is planning to air a TV version of cult classic movie and stage play The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
High School Musical’s Kenny Ortega will direct and choreograph the two-hour special, and Gail Berman, the former Fox Entertainment boss, will exec produce. Lou Adler, who produced the original 1975 movie, is also attached.
Fox 21 Television Studios, and Berman’s Jackal Group are the production companies.
The project has a working title of The Rocky Horror Picture Show Event, according to Deadline. There are no specific scheduling details yet, but the launch of the special will coincide with the 40th anniversary of the movie, which was produced by 20th Century Fox.
The Fox channel had previously attempted a 30th anniversary special, but it faltered and never got made.
The camp classic follows a young couple who stumble into a castle owned by mad scientist, and alien transvestite, Frank N. Furter.
